They don't produce content of their own, they just comment/criticise content of others. I was watching a YouTube video of Ali Abdall (look him up) and he was initially concerned that if he started putting content (blog posts initially) that his family would criticise him, his friends would laugh at him etc. He also felt like he was an imposter. Then he read the book Show Your Work by Austin Kleon (short book, worth a read) that said you should just publish and be damned anyway. When he did start to publish some blog posts (he now has much more media to post on, mainly YouTube I think?) he found that yes he did get some criticism but it was not the sky is falling type scenario.
